FVS Accounts Solution

NETWORK RUNNING SLOWLY

Problem:

This morning our network appears not to be running at full speed. Any idea what might be wrong?

Solution:

Your should check the following.

1. Make sure no user is accessing the backend database and has a table open. This can prevent other users accessing records.

2. Look after your network cables. A damaged cable can slow down a network without stopping it completely. This can hppen if a switch or print server falls on the floor and tugs on cables. If slowness is only apparent in a single office, try changing the cable that links that office to the rest of the network.

3. Viruses can slow down computers. You should make sure that your virus definitions are up to date and that you are running the Windows firewall.

To correct this problem proceed as follows:

Check your connections, shut down and re-start the server. If all else fails invoke your hardware contract and call out a hardware technician. They can test network cable using a digital multimeter and shuold be able to identify other more serious faults.
